Have You Ever Felt Like You Were Nothing?

Have you ever felt like you were nothing – a nobody - apart from being a wife and mother?

As if without the labels, you are nothing?

There was a time when I defined myself by those roles. Until I opened Glennon Doyle Melton’s book, “Love Warrior” In reading her story I remembered that all too familiar belief - to borrow from the author- “If I am not a successful wife and mother, who am I? Nothing. The end.”

Leading to the belief we so often latch onto “I don’t know who I am. And I am failing at being me.”

Does that resonate lovely one? Perhaps you keep your pain buried behind a facade of smiles while running yourself ragged? Or maybe you make jokes about your life to diffuse the loneliness and uncertainty?

You are not alone. It happens so much more often than you know. I work with high achieving, intelligent, beautiful women who come to me in this very same place – wondering what the hell happened to their lives.

When I ask them, “what would it take to make your life a success?” the answer is always the same – “Find me again” followed by either moving on, or turning their failed marriage back to what it once seemed it could be.

But here is another secret they all seem to share. Almost every woman I work with has, or is, seeing a counselor for their marriage, but it doesn’t seem to be helping.

Which is absolutely no one’s fault – it is just the way marriage problems are approached. I saw eight therapists during my marital struggles, eight. Until I just gave up.

One of my clients recently shared that despite seeing three different therapists, she was still in a lot of pain and very confused about what she should do. After three months of working together she rediscovered herself and this is what she said - “…my life completely changed.”

Once she took the focus off her husband, and put it back on the one person, the only person she could change, everything else fell into place.

It isn’t magic. It’s about finding you again.

You can find yourself again; learn to love yourself again – and truly succeed at this thing called life.

I can help you do that.
So, if you are lost, confused, lonely, in pain or just angry as hell, let’s talk.
